Silver tone on this page means three different metals, and the Details table on each piece says which. The sterling silver initial is 925 silver under a white gold plating. The silver plated and white gold plated finishes are a thin layer over a base metal, the same way our gold finishes are made. The pieces for him are stainless steel all the way through.
That difference changes the care. Plating wears where a chain rubs, so the plated pieces want a pouch and a dry drawer. Sterling silver can darken in air over time and polishes back with a silver cloth. Steel mostly asks to be wiped dry.
